Heart Disease in Women: What you May or May Not Know

With busy routines, endless activities and days filled with work and responsibilities, focusing on your own health often takes a back seat. The simplest lifestyle changes can make the biggest difference for a heart that beats healthy. In honor of American Heart Month, join Shawnee Mission Health Electrophysiologist and Cardiologist Obadah Al Chekakie, MD, for a session focused on keeping your heart healthy, understanding your heart rhythm and learning how it impacts your quality of life. With heart disease being the number one killer of women, it’s important to know the signs and symptoms and to take steps to minimize your risk.

Women's Training Team

Tuesdays, April 3-May 8, 2018 / 6-7:30 p.m.  / New Location! Shawnee Mission Health - Overland Park
Ready to get in shape, but need a little push? Join the Living in Vitality Women's Training Team with your friends and find weekly motivation to reach your health and fitness goals. Our women-only environment offers the support you need to improve any running/walking technique. This six-week exercise and conditioning program led by Kansas City Express is designed for women and girls ages 12 and older, and welcomes participants of all sizes and abilities.

Smoking Cessation 
Jan. 22-Feb. 19 / 6:30-8 p.m.
Free yourself to live your life as a non-smoker. Learn a variety of techniques from a former smoker and a supportive group. Get help to achieve your goal to be smoke free. This is a 5-week, nine-session program, and attendance in all sessions will enhance your success.

ADHD Resiliency 
Jan. 29 / 6-7:30 p.m.
While you may not be able to change the fact that you have adult ADHD, it is possible to understand how to support yourself when you feel overwhelmed by the daily challenges of ADHD, more easily cope with the clutter in your home and office, and learn how to create new systems and routines to support yourself throughout your day. Please join Nikki Crawford, PhD, for this informational session.

Yoga for Life - Mixed Levels
Feb. 6-27 / 5:30-6:45 p.m.
This is an all levels Hatha Yoga class. Some yoga experience recommended. This class will work with basic yoga modifications through intermediate variations of poses. Feel better than you have in years.

Mindful Breathing
March 28 / 4:30-5:30 p.m.
Slowing down and being present is one of the most beneficial things you can do for your body. Breathing is one way to help with this practice. Learn several stress-reduction breathing exercises to calm you down during the day. Bring a blanket and pillow to class.
