Our Program

Shawnee Mission Medical Center's Wound Care Center® begins with a comprehensive patient evaluation to develop an individualized, aggressive treatment program for non-healing wounds. Our services include interdisciplinary, comprehensive wound management that integrates advanced wound care techniques, products and services.

Most patients require a series of outpatient visits over a couple of months to result in healing. During this time, patients also receive a variety of educational support services, such as caring for wounds at home, nutrition, exercises and other measures to aid healing and prevention of wounds. Patients remain in the care of their primary care physician and other specialty providers, as our main priority is healing the wound. As a department of Shawnee Mission Medical Center, patients will benefit from on-site collaboration with physical therapists, nutritionists, social workers and diabetes educators, as well as a full range of diagnostic services.

The comprehensive care provided at the Wound Care Center® allows 95 percent of patients to heal their wounds in an average of less than two months, compared to the national average of five months.
