Beginning this month, Shawnee Mission Medical Center (SMMC) will offer more help than ever for area couples facing the challenge of infertility. Reproductive Medicine & Infertility (RMI) at SMMC welcomes its newest physician, Colleen Milroy, MD.
For three years, Bob Kissinger’s primary care physician recommended that he undergo a routine colonoscopy. With no family history and because he wasn’t experiencing any symptoms, Kissinger was reluctant.
Despite his apprehension, Kissinger listened to his doctor and went in for a colonoscopy. During the procedure, Jeffrey Young, MD, discovered a malignant tumor.
Shawnee Mission Medical Center (SMMC) has earned the Gold Seal of Approval™ from The Joint Commission for Primary Stroke Centers. SMMC earned this distinction after the Joint Commission conducted an on-site review in January.
Burton Gordon knows how difficult it is to live with a profound hearing loss. The 81-year-old resident of Aberdeen Village in Olathe, Kan., began experiencing problems with his hearing while still in grade school.
“I had a terrible ear infection in my right ear that just never cleared up,” Gordon said. He struggled with the infection as a young adult and was even declared ineligible for military service because of the hearing loss. Still, he has never let it keep him from living life to its fullest.
