MERRIAM, Kan. – Music has been proven to accelerate patient healing, lessen discomfort and anxiety, and lower blood pressure. Music therapy pioneer Janalea Hoffman will host a Healing Concert for Shawnee Mission Medical Center (SMMC) patients and community members on Monday, May 3, 3 p.m., in the SMMC Chapel.
Hoffman will use her innovate approach to healing combined with a variety of music styles ranging from classical to popular music to allow participants to enter into their own healing journey. The concert will consist of education about how music affects the brain and general well-being, along with interludes of instrumental music.
