MERRIAM, Kan. – Shawnee Mission Medical Center (SMMC) has been designated as a Blue Distinction Center® for Cardiac Care from Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas City.
Blue Distinction Centers for Cardiac Care demonstrate their commitment to quality care, resulting in better overall outcomes for cardiac patients. SMMC met evidence-based clinical criteria, developed in collaboration with expert physicians’ and medical organizations, and is subject to periodic re-evaluation as criteria continue to evolve.
MERRIAM, Kan.—Individuals suffering from Barrett’s esophagus, a pre-cancerous condition caused by chronic heartburn, now have a non-surgical treatment option. Halo Ablation eliminates the pre-cancerous cells using a device that is dropped into the esophagus via the mouth. Fifteen patients from the Kansas City area are already scheduled for the new procedure at Shawnee Mission Medical Center (SMMC).
