Brandon Thomas (left) graduated from the University of Kansas School of Pharmacy in 2013. He is originally from central Kansas and currently resides in Olathe. Brandon majored in Biochemistry as an undergraduate, which help lead him to his career in pharmacy. He has participated in research for the biology and chemistry departments at the University of Kansas and received the Edward E. Smissman award for excellence in medicinal chemistry. Prior to accepting a residency at Shawnee Mission Medical Center he worked in both retail and independent pharmacy settings. Brandon specifically focused on the practice of clinical pharmacy during his advanced practice clerkships. His current residency interests include: infectious disease, internal medicine and cardiology. Brandon’s other interests include science, technology, the Kansas City Chiefs and Jayhawk basketball. Upon the completion of a PGY1 residency, Brandon would like to become BCPS certified and practice his clinical skills at a hospital in the Kansas City area.
Mel Smith (right) is a 2013 graduate of the University of Iowa College of Pharmacy. She grew up in Independence, Iowa and currently resides in Shawnee, Kansas. Her current practice interests include critical care, emergency medicine, and academia. Upon completion of the PGY-1 Pharmacy Residency, Mel plans to pursue a PGY-2 residency position in one of her interest areas as well as obtain BCPS certification. In her free time Mel enjoys traveling, scuba diving, cooking, and cheering on the Iowa Hawkeyes.
