CPR School Program
Merriam, Kan. – Cardiac Arrest is a leading cause of death in the United States, but when ordinary people, not just doctors and emergency service workers, know CPR, a victim’s survival rate can double, or even triple.

As National CPR Week draws to a close, Johnson County can feel a little safer knowing that with support from Shawnee Mission Health and Johnson County Med ACT, schools in Johnson County will be adding thousands of lifesavers to our communities by training eighth and ninth grade students in the fall at  schools across the area.

The program will train students in adult and infant/child CPR. The course at the area schools will be taught by Johnson County MED Act professionals during the day as part of the regular health curriculum. The mannequins, training equipment and course materials are also provided free-of-charge to the school by Shawnee Mission Health. Students will learn CPR and relief of choking for adults, children and infants, the use of barrier devices, and the use of the automated external defibrillator (AED).

In addition to training local students, Shawnee Mission Health also offers regular CPR Life Saving classes to the public. Upon successful completion of the program, participants will be given an AHA Healthcare Provider card, valid for two years. For more information, please visit
