Occupational Therapy

If your arms or hands are injured, or you have a medical condition such as stroke, a Shawnee Mission Medical Center occupational therapist will help you explore your potential and then work with you to assure you reach optimal functioning.

An integral component of Shawnee Mission Medical Center's Rehabilitation Services, Occupational Therapy (OT) is used to help patients improve arm and hand strength, as well as flexibility, dexterity and fine motor skills. Occupational therapists also work with patients to enhance their ability to perform daily living skills such as dressing, grooming, personal hygiene and eating.

Occupational therapists work with both inpatients and outpatients to assess each person's ability to function, they develop and track individualized treatment plans, and they help patients learn to make adaptations designed to enhance quality of life.
