The Shawnee Mission Surgery Center (SMSC) is a freestanding ambulatory surgery center located on the campus of Shawnee Mission Medical Center (SMMC). The surgery center provides outpatient surgical procedures including general, orthopedic, ophthalmology, plastic, gynecological, ear/nose/throat procedures, dermatology and urology/lithotripsy services.

Originally founded in 1984 as SMMC's Day Surgery, the SMSC embarked on a joint venture between SMMC and 25 physician partners in 2002. Additionally, in 2002 SMSC became a licensed Ambulatory Surgery Center as a multi-specialty ambulatory surgery center containing four operating rooms and two minor rooms.

Employing 55 associates and serving the needs of 65 surgeons every month, the Surgery Center averages 7,000 surgeries annually
