SMMC Partners with American Heart Association to Start! Walking

For the third consecutive year, Shawnee Mission Medical Center (SMMC) has partnered with the American Heart Association on its Start! initiative, a program that calls on all Americans and their employers to create a culture of physical activity and health through walking. SMMC is one of three cause sponsors in the Kansas City area.

Join the 2010 Speaking of Women's Health Training Team

Join women and girls of all ages, sizes and fitness levels to get in shape with our women's health experts--athletic trainers and physical therapists who specialize in injury prevention. This 6-week series combines walking or running with educational sessions on topics such as injury prevention, walk/run technique, clothing, weight management, nutrition & safety.

Sessions are from 6:30 to 8 p.m. every Tuesday night for six weeks beginning March 30. There is a nominal fee of $30 for all six weeks, Glow members get a $10 discount off session fee. If you are interested in participating in the training team click here.

Cardiac Patient Holds Special Place in His Heart for SMMC

Annually, more than five million people visit hospitals with chest pain. Last year, Johnson County resident Dale Warman was one of them.

Three days after undergoing shoulder surgery, Warman was taken to Shawnee Mission Medical Center (SMMC) with complaints of chest pain. After examination by Cardiologist Jhulan Mukharji, MD, Warman was told he needed bypass surgery to remove a blood clot that had formed in his coronary artery. The surgery was performed by Clarke Henry, MD, and Warman spent five days at SMMC following the procedure.
