The Miracle of Sleep

Many of us couldn’t imagine functioning after only a few hours of restless sleep each night. Unfortunately, some people do. Four to six patients visit the Shawnee Mission Medical Center (SMMC) Sleep Disorders Center (SDC) each night to figure out why. According to a poll by the National Sleep Foundation, 75 percent of adults frequently have symptoms of sleep problems, such as waking frequently or snoring. Most people ignore these problems, even when they feel tired all the time. They don’t realize there may be a solution.

SMMC "Gets With the Guidelines"

Shawnee Mission Medical Center (SMMC) recently received the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association’s Get with the Guidelines (GWTG) Stroke Silver Plus Performance Achievement Award.

The award recognizes SMMC’s commitment to success in implementing a higher standard of stroke care by ensuring that stroke patients receive treatment according to nationally accepted standards and recommendations. This program helps ensure quality improvement of acute stroke treatment and ischemic stroke prevention, while focusing on team protocols to ensure that individuals are treated and discharged appropriately.
