Shawnee Mission Endocrinology & Diabetes Welcomes New Physician

MERRIAM, Kan. - M. Yaser Mounla will begin seeing patients at Shawnee Mission Endocrinology & Diabetes on August 3.

Mounla is a 2001 graduate of the University of Aleppo School of Medicine in Syria. He completed his residency in Internal Medicine at the University of Kentucky and his fellowship in Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism from the University of Louisville in June 2009.

Shawnee Mission Medical Center receives American Heart Association’s Get with the Guidelines Gold Performance Achievement Award

MERRIAM, Kan. — Shawnee Mission Medical Center (SMMC) recently received the American Heart Association’s Get With The Guidelines – Coronary Artery Disease (GWTG–CAD) Gold Performance Achievement Award. The award recognizes SMMC’s commitment and success in implementing a higher standard of cardiac care that effectively improves treatment of patients hospitalized with coronary artery disease.

Kick-off Events Scheduled at SMMC in Honor of National Start! Walking Day

MERRIAM, Kan. — Shawnee Mission Medical Center (SMMC) will host an internal rally today to encourage its associates to get involved with the Start! Walking program.

Start! is the American Heart Association’s (AHA) national initiative that calls on all Americans and their employers to create a culture of physical activity and health to live longer, heart-healthier lives through walking. April 8 kicks off SMMC’s seven-week Start! program. All participants who track their activity throughout the seven weeks will be eligible for weekly incentives. More than 60 teams are participating in the program.

MERRIAM, Kan. – Shawnee Mission Medical Center (SMMC) has been designated as a Blue Distinction Center® for Cardiac Care from Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas City.

Blue Distinction Centers for Cardiac Care demonstrate their commitment to quality care, resulting in better overall outcomes for cardiac patients. SMMC met evidence-based clinical criteria, developed in collaboration with expert physicians’ and medical organizations, and is subject to periodic re-evaluation as criteria continue to evolve.
