Shawnee Mission Medical Center Qualifies for American Heart Association’s Mission: Lifeline Recognition for Heart Attack Care

Merriam, Kan. — Shawnee Mission Medical Center (SMMC) recently qualified for the American Heart Association’s (AHA) Mission: Lifeline Bronze Performance Achievement Award. The award recognizes SMMC’s commitment and success in implementing a higher standard of care for heart attack patients that effectively improves the survival and care of ST Elevation Myocardial Infarction (STEMI) patients.

Record Number of Babies Born in July at Shawnee Mission Medical Center

MERRIAM, Kan.- Shawnee Mission Medical Center’s Special Addition Birth Center broke its own birth record in July, welcoming 361 babies into the world. The previous record was 355 babies born in August 2005.

MERRIAM, Kan. – Shawnee Mission Medical Center (SMMC) has earned the Gold Seal of Approval™ from The Joint Commission for Primary Stroke Centers. SMMC earned this distinction after the Joint Commission conducted an unannounced on-site review in January.

Breast Center Receives Accreditation

MERRIAM, Kan. –Shawnee Mission Medical Center’s (SMMC) Breast Center was granted a three-year, full accreditation by the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC), a program administered by the American College of Surgeons. SMMC is the only hospital in the Kansas City metropolitan area and the State of Kansas to receive this recognition. Accreditation by the NAPBC is only given to those centers that have voluntarily committed to providing the highest level of quality breast care and that undergo a rigorous evaluation process and review of their performance.

Shawnee Mission Medical Center to Host Healing Concert

MERRIAM, Kan. – Music has been proven to accelerate patient healing, lessen discomfort and anxiety, and lower blood pressure. Music therapy pioneer Janalea Hoffman will host a Healing Concert for Shawnee Mission Medical Center (SMMC) patients and community members on Monday, May 3, 3 p.m., in the SMMC Chapel.
