Shawnee Mission Medical Center Opens Final Two Floors of Critical Care Services Expansion

MERRIAM, Kan. – After opening the state-of-the-art Critical Care Services Expansion in January 2009, Shawnee Mission Medical Center (SMMC) opened the final two floors of the Expansion this week. The tower’s new seventh and eighth floors are home to the Progressive Care Unit and a new Heart & Neuro Vascular Unit.

Special Addition Birth Center Sets Birth Record

MERRIAM, Kan. – Shawnee Mission Medical Center’s (SMMC) Special Addition Birth Center delivers more babies than any other hospital in the Kansas City metropolitan area and in 2010 celebrated several significant milestones. The Center broke its own birth record in 2010, bringing 3,912 newborns into the world. In addition, the Center birthed its 100,000th baby in November.

Shawnee Mission Medical Center Welcomes Four New Cardiologists

MERRIAM, Kan. – Building on the strength of its existing cardiology team, Shawnee Mission Medical Center (SMMC) will welcome four new cardiologists this month. Gilbert Katz, MD; Rajya L. Malay, MD, FACC; Thaju Salam, MD; and Mohan Shenoy, MD; will practice at Shawnee Mission Cardiology Associates. The four join SMMC’s current cardiology groups, Clinical Cardiovascular Associates and Heart Health Partners, PA; increasing the number of cardiologists on SMMC’s staff from 10 to 14.

Shawnee Mission Urgent Care to Move January 19

MERRIAM, Kan. – Shawnee Mission Urgent Care will close its Oak Park Mall location beginning Monday, January 17 and move one mile north to a new, expanded clinic at 9040 Quivira Road in Lenexa. Urgent Care will be closed Monday, January 17 and Tuesday, January 18 in preparation for this move. The clinic will reopen at its new location near I-35 and Quivira on Wednesday, January 19 at 9 a.m.

Join us as we salute first responders throughout Johnson County who risk their lives everyday to serve our community. Musical performances will include selections by the Union College Unionaires and Kansas City Symphony Brass Ensemble.
