MERRIAM, Kan. – Samuel H. Turner, Sr., President/CEO of Shawnee Mission Medical Center (SMMC), announced his retirement to hospital leadership on Oct. 28. Turner has been with the hospital since 2000 and will officially retire after December 2, 2011.
Merriam, Kan. - On August 2, Shawnee Mission Medical Center (SMMC) said farewell to the days of handwritten physician and provider orders for all inpatients in favor of a new, computerized system designed to drastically reduce medical errors and speed up patient care. With the launch of its Computerized Provider Order Entry (CPOE), SMMC is at the forefront of new medical technology designed to improve patient safety and ranks in the top 12 percent of the nation’s hospitals for having a fully-integrated electronic medical records system.
MERRIAM, Kan. – Larry Botts, MD, has been named Chief Medical Officer at Shawnee Mission Medical Center (SMMC). Botts, a pulmonologist, has been a member of SMMC’s medical staff since 1984 and will begin his new role on June 1.
Merriam, Kan. - Shawnee Mission Medical Center (SMMC) recently received The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval™ for its inpatient diabetes program by demonstrating compliance with The Joint Commission’s national standards for health care quality and safety in disease-specific care. SMMC is the first and only hospital in the Kansas City metropolitan area to receive this certification.
MERRIAM, Kan. – Aetna has determined that Shawnee Mission Medical Center (SMMC) and Shawnee Mission Prairie Star Surgery Center have met the requirements for designation as Institutes of Quality Bariatric Surgery Facilities. Hospitals receiving this designation must meet specific criteria for clinical performance and overall value of the facility. SMMC and the Prairie Star Surgery Center will now be listed on DocFind®, Aetna’s online provider directory.
