Shawnee Mission Medical Center is the hospital of choice for thousands of women and their families in the Kansas City area. Our Center for Women’s Health provides a full spectrum of services for more than 42,000 women each year. Here are some ways your tax-deductable gift can help them:

$20 will buy an educational notebook for a woman newly diagnosed with cancer.

$50 will buy a specialty garment for a woman shopping in our Cancer Survivor Store.

$100 will help pay for a mammogram for a woman without health insurance.

$250 will send 5 women to Camp Bluebird, Shawnee Mission Medical Center’s 3-day camping experience for adult cancer patients.

$500 will pay for 5 women to participate in A Time to Heal, a 12-week program for women who have completed breast cancer treatment.

$1,000 will pay for 2 of our nurses to attend a conference offering the most up-to-date information, resources and support for patients and families experiencing a new diagnosis of breast cancer.

$5,000 will help pay for a specimen radiograph machine for improved breast cancer care.

Lee Ann Britain Infant Development Center

Shawnee Mission Medical Center is the hospital of choice for thousands of families each year, including those with children who are born with special needs. Since 1972, more than 4,000 children have come to The Lee Ann Britain Infant Development Center for a wide range of therapeutic programs. Gifts to The Foundation for Shawnee Mission Medical Center support the specialized care that children receive at the Britain Center. Here are some ways that your tax-deductable gift can help:

$20 will buy art supplies for one child or a new book for our parent library.

$50 will buy a Picture Exchange Communication System book for a child who relies on pictures to communicate with the world around him.

$100 will buy a pressure-weighted vest for a child with a sensory processing disorder.

$250 will send a Britain Center staff member to a continuing education conference.

$500 will pay for a team evaluation for a child with special needs.

$1,000 will provide 9 sessions of speech therapy, 5 sessions of physical therapy or 5 sessions of occupational therapy for one child and family.

$5,000 will pay for training in new therapeutic strategies for all of our Britain Center staff members.

Maternity and Newborn

$20 will buy bottles, warm sleepers and socks for babies in our Maternity and Neonatal Intensive Care units.

$50 will pay for a lactation expert to help a mother and her newborn with feeding issues.

$100 will buy a car seat for a family in need.

$250 will buy a breast pump for a mother whose infant needs her milk to thrive.

$350 will buy a digital camera to photograph a baby in our Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) whose mother did not get a chance to see her immediately after birth.

$500 will help buy a rocker crib for infants in our well-baby nursery.

$2,000 will purchase a “kangaroo chair” that allows parents in our NICU to hold and care for their babies who thrive on constant human touch.

$4,000 will buy a blanket warmer to keep our babies warm and comfortable.
