Mission of Healing Campaign
Transforming Health Care in Johnson County
The Foundation for Shawnee Mission Medical Center launched the A Mission of Healing campaign - a $30 million integrated, philanthropic campaign - to support the present and future health care needs of the community. Campaign priorities include:
New building projects including the Critical Care Services Expansion, Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and Maternity expansion.- Program funding for Camp Bluebird, Center for Women's Health, Lee Ann Britain Infant Development Center and other crucial community programs.
- Endowment funds for surgical technology, research and the Institute for Spirituality in Health.
The Foundation for SMMC, led by campaign chairman Timothy Rodgers, launched a five-year, $30 million campaign to support the building projects as well as programs and endowments. Midway through the campaign, over $16 million has been raised to support the healing mission of SMMC. Honorary chairs of the campaign are John C. Dicus, Mark Gilman, Dr. Rodney Hill, Terri Olsen, Richard Shull and Dr. David Vodonick.
Gifts to the campaign include a $1.2 million challenge grant from the J.E. and L.E. Mabee Foundation of Tulsa, Okla., and a $750,000 challenge grant from The Kresge Foundation of Troy, Mich. These challenge grants succeeded through major gifts of Brent W. Olsen, the William T. Kemper Foundation at Commerce Bank, Capitol Federal Savings, Richard and Barbara Shull, EM Specialists, PA, Clinical Cardiovascular Associates, Mark and Nancy Gilman, J.E. Dunn Construction Company and many other individuals and organizations.
"This is a crucial physical expansion for the hospital," said Lou Gehring, Executive Director of the Foundation for SMMC. "But in truth, the campaign is about more than buildings or high-tech medical equipment. It is about changing the lives of those we serve. It is about you and me and every individual in our community. We will all benefit from the enhanced level of care in this new facility."
Now, A Mission of Healing asks you to join us in realizing the next phase of our dream: Expanding first-class health care for more women and children throughout our region.
