2007 Milestones

January
The commitments of Dr. Armbruster's family and others assured that one of the new operating suites in the Critical Care Services Expansion will be named for Dr. Albert A. Armbruster, one of the founders of Shawnee Mission Medical Center.

March
The SMMC Associates Campaign was the most successful yet, raising $101,727 for many Foundation funds. Because the campaign surpassed its goal of $90,000, the Credit Union of Johnson County fulfilled its challenge grant of $20,000.

The Doctor's Day direct mailing generated 223 new former patient donors to the Foundation.  These new donors also sent more than 700 personal messages to their SMMC physicians.

April
The J.E. and L.E. Mabee Foundation of Tulsa, Okla., awarded a $1.2 million challenge grant to support the A Mission of Healing Campaign for the Critical Care Services Expansion. The Foundation raised over $3.3 million for the building project to qualify for the grant.  Major commitments from Clinical Cardiovascular Associates and Midwest Anesthesia completed the challenge.

June
The Foundation Board held its annual Board Retreat and began the process of formulating strategic initiatives for a four-year period.

October
Speaking of Women's Health generated the highest sponsorship total in its 10-year history - $419,600 in national, regional and local sponsorship dollars. In addition to sponsorship, $100,000 was raised through individual gifts for a special 10th anniversary campaign for the Cancer Survivors' Store in the Center for Women's Health at SMMC. Foundation Board member Bethany Derrough chaired this year's event.

November
The Tiny Tim Holiday Fantasy celebrated with almost 900 persons attending. $502,700 was raised for the Lee Ann Britain Infant Developement Center scholarship fund and the SMMC Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.

SMMC Medical Staff made a $100,000 campaign commitment in support of the Kresge Foundation challenge grant.

December
The Foundation is on track to raise gifts and pledges of almost $4 million in 2007.  In addition, $650,000 in deferred gift decisions were made during the year.

The Foundation distributed over $2,159,215 to the Medical Center in 2007.
