Graduation Requirements:
  1. Licensure: Kansas pharmacist licensure is required before August 1. Exceptions must be approved by the program director.  Residents who do not meet this deadline or who do not obtain an exemption from the program director will be relieved from the program until such a time that (s)he can present a license.
  2. Personal Goals: The resident will develop personal goals for the residency year. These will be discussed with the program director and coordinators during the initial evaluation and at each quarterly evaluation.
  3. Rotations: The resident will be required to fulfill the objectives of the required rotations as specified as well as selected electives.
  4. Distribution: Twenty hours of staffing are required per month. Additional hours, as desired by the resident, may be available for additional pay. Residents picking up extra hours at Shawnee Mission Medical Center (SMMC) or an outside institution must get approval from the rotation preceptor, residency coordinators and residency director.
  5. Certifications: Basic (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification will be obtained by the residents within the first 4 months of residency. The classes are both offered through SMMC Life Dynamics. Residents will be responsible for attending all Code Blue situations in the hospital.
  6. Research: The resident will be required to present a major research project at the ASHP Midyear Meeting Poster Presentation in December. The resident will also be required to present at the Midwest Residency Conference in the spring. A final project manuscript must be submitted to the residency advisory committee prior to graduation from the residency.
  7. Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee (P&T): The residents will attend all monthly P&T meetings and will be required to present at least two times to the members, one of which will be a Drug/Medication Utilization Review.
  8. Participation in Resident Conference: The resident will present two Journal Club articles, over the course of the year, during the weekly residents’ conference. The chosen article should be reviewed and approved by an appropriate preceptor and distributed to the staff one week prior to the scheduled presentation. The resident will also present five formal case presentation during the weekly conference throughout the year.
  9. Preceptorship: If pharmacy students are assigned to the same service as the resident, (s)he will be expected to serve as a role model and assist in precepting clerkship students.
  10. Residency Learning System: The resident will have to at least achieve a “Satisfactory Progress” score in each goal assessed. In addition, the resident will have to score “Achieved” on the RLS goals: 1.3, 1.4, 2.1, 2.2, 2.3, 2.4, 2.6, 2.7, 2.8, 2.9, 2.10, 2.11
