Invasive Cardiology
When more information is needed about how well your heart is functioning, our invasive cardiology lab offers highly specialized procedures. The state-of-the-art Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory at the Shawnee Mission Heart & Vascular Center offers a highly trained team of credentialed cardiologists, technologists and nurses 24 hours a day, seven days a week to meet the health care needs of our patients.
A cardiac catheterization is one of the most common tests to evaluate your heart and coronary arteries. This means a thin flexible tube is threaded through a blood vessel in your arm or groin and into your heart. Dye is then injected to trace movement of blood through the arteries. If your coronary arteries are blocked, your doctor can then use catheters and/or drug-eluting stents to open them and restore normal blood flow.
Other procedures include:
- Percutaneous Transluminal Angioplasty (PTCA)
- Atherectomy
- Permanent Pacemaker
- Implantable Cardiac Defibrillators
- Biventricular Synchronization
- Diagnostic Fluoroscopy
- Vascular Studies Intervention and Stenting
- Intracoronary Ultrasound
- Intracoronary and Drug-eluting Stents
- Heart Biopsies
- Pericardiocentesis
- Intra Aortic Balloon Pump (IABP)
- Cardioversions
- Temporary Transvenous Pacemaker
- Angiojet
- Coronary Brachytherapy
- Cardioseal Closure Device for Patent Foraman Ovale (PFO)
