The Shawnee Mission Surgery Center (SMSC) was a pioneer in ambulatory surgery when in was founded in 1984 as Shawnee Mission Medical Center's (SMMC) Day Surgery. In 2002, SMSC became a licensed Ambulatory Surgery Center and embarked on a joint venture between SMMC and 25 physician partners.
Due to the strong community demand for services, SMSC outgrew its former facility and recently moved into a new state-of-the-art location on the SMMC campus in the Sante Fe Building located at 9301 W. 74th Street, Suite 300.
The SMSC now includes six operating rooms, nine pre-op beds and 18 recovery beds. The Surgery Center provides outpatient surgical procedures including general, orthopedic, ophthalmology, plastic, gynecological, ear/nose/throat, dermatology and urology/lithotripsy services. The Center averages 6,500 surgeries annually.
Employing 60 associates and serving the needs of 120 surgeons, our team is committed to excellence and is focused on providing the safest environment for our patients. Our surgeons, anesthesia providers and excellent nurses, clinical staff and business office personnel truly live SMMC’s culture of providing a sacred environment for our community.
