Post-Operative Care

At Home the Day of Surgery

  • If you have a general anesthetic (you’re completely asleep during surgery), you must have someone stay with you 12-24 hours after you return home. You must also refrain from driving for 24 hours.
  • If you have a regional anesthetic (you’re medicated, but still awake during surgery), someone should stay with you for at least 12 hours after discharge.
  • The day after surgery, we will call you to see how you are doing and answer any questions you may have.

At the Hospital

  • If you are hospitalized following your surgery, the coordinator will let your family know when you are transferred to your room.
  • The nursing staff will have complete information about your condition and care.
