Skylight Patient Interactive System

Most would agree that there is nothing like staying at home for real comfort. Shawnee Mission Medical Center (SMMC) exemplifies this sentiment by leading the way on providing home-like care for patients and their families during their hospital stay.

SMMC now offers Skylight ACCESS®, a patient interactive television system that enables patients to watch movies, view and engage in on-demand educational and relaxation videos, complete surveys, view the Internet, play games and get a variety of hospital information all with the click of a remote.

The patient interactive television is free for SMMC patients and features simplistic system components including the same handheld device used to call for a nurse or adjust the lighting, a wireless keyboard for the Internet and their television.

SMMC plans to make enhancements to the existing patient interactive television system, offering patients even more choices and control over their care during their stay. Online meal ordering is now available in select units including Maternity, enabling patients to select and order their meals through the patient interactive television system.  New welcome and room orientation videos have just been added to the system, as well as a new Infection Control section that includes information about handwashing and the H1N1 Flu Virus.
