Nutrition & Weight Loss
Shawnee Mission Medical Center offers two programs that teach healthy eating habits so you can lose weight and keep it off. For more information on the programs or to register, contact the ASK-A-NURSE Resource Center at 913-676-7777.
INSHAPE Weight Management Program
If you are ready to lose weight and keep it off, INSHAPE can teach you permanent lifestyle changes that will help you reach – and maintain – your goal. Individual counseling at INSHAPE focuses on healthy eating, physical activity, behavior modification, stress management and achieving a positive attitude about food.
At the initial consultation, a registered dietitian will make an assessment to determine your individual needs, along with setting up a care plan that will help you modify your lifestyle to reach your desired weight.
Emphasis is placed on personalized care through weekly follow-up appointments for weight monitoring. These follow-up sessions are a key part of INSHAPE’s success as they teach techniques to manage difficult food situations that occur in every day life.

WMU (Weight Management University) Group Weight Management Program
This 6 month program empowers individuals to change their food behavior habits using the latest scientific information. These lifetime changes are achieved by using repeated positive reinforcement. You will learn how to problem-solve when confronted with a food issue to help prevent feeling like you are waging an ongoing struggle with food. The emphasis is offering support and helping you retrain your thinking toward food. This sometimes difficult process is crucial for long term success.
Weight Management University is unique from other programs in that it has registered dietitians teaching the classes and that the goal for participants doesn’t focus on just weight loss. The goal is to help individuals lose weight in a healthy way and keep it off, not using “quick fixes” or fads, using recommendations based on scientific findings and research.
Weight-Loss Surgery - Live Webcast
