The state-of-the-art Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory at the Shawnee Mission Heart & Vascular Center offers a highly trained team of credentialed cardiologists, technologists and nurses 24 hours a day, seven days a week to meet the health care needs of our patients.
A cardiac catheterization is one of the most common tests to evaluate your heart and coronary arteries. This means a thin flexible tube is threaded through a blood vessel in your arm or groin and into your heart. Dye is then injected to trace movement of blood through the arteries. If your coronary arteries are blocked, your doctor can then use catheters and/or drug-eluting stents to open them and restore normal blood flow.
