While most patients see one of our medical experts in less than 30 minutes, there's much more to the quality of an ED than the time you have to wait. With nearly 70,000 visits each year, our team of doctors and nurses has the experience to deal with any medical emergency. And, we have many physician specialists available on call so you don't have to wait for the next day to follow up on your care.
Even though time is of the essence, we pride ourselves in being able to connect with each patient to fully understand his or her needs so we can provide the most appropriate treatment.
ED Wait Times
ED Wait Times is currently unavailable as we work to improve accuracy. We apologize for the inconvenience.
Shawnee Mission Health provides wait times both online and via text. Simply text SMMC to 4ER411 (437411). You will receive an instant text reply with wait times for both ED locations – Shawnee Mission Medical Center, located at I-35 and 75th Street in Merriam, and Shawnee Mission Health - Prairie Star, located at K-7 and Prairie Star Parkway in Lenexa.
If you experience a life-threatening emergency, dial 911.
Wait times are approximate and are an average of the time between when patients over the previous half hour have checked in and the time they were first seen by a physician or nurse practitioner. Patients with life-threatening circumstances and those who are more severely compromised will take priority and can impact wait times. Our staff will work to inform you of any delay in your care. Messaging & data rates may apply. Text HELP to [ 437411 ] for help. Text STOP to [ 437411 ] to stop.
