Music Therapy

On any given day, visitors to the Lee Ann Britain Infant Development Center can hear music echoing through the halls. The music they hear is not just a radio or CD playing, but rather it is the sound of kids learning and healing.

The power of music therapy has been backed by extensive research. Music therapy is able to address physical, cognitive, behavioral, social and communication skills simultaneously in a positive and exciting manner. The purpose of music therapy is not to gain musical skills, but rather to use music therapeutically to address goals in an intentional and developmentally appropriate manner to affect changes in a child’s behavior and facilitate development in these areas.

Music therapy plays an integral role in the Britain Center program. Whether it’s a four-year-old stretching his arms and legs to the rhythm of the music, or a toddler learning to walk and talk, music therapy captures the children’s interest and makes them forget how hard they are working to achieve their goals.
