Weight-loss surgery is an option for people between ages 18 and 72. Generally, candidates are 100 pounds or more over ideal body weight, have a BMI of at least 35 with one or more weight-related health conditions, or have a BMI over 40. We do many patients with a much higher BMI, and they may be required to do some medically supervised dieting in order to more safely have one of the procedures.
To calculate your BMI, divide your weight in kilograms by your weight in square meters. Although a patient's BMI does not actually correlate in terms of body fat or overall health condition, it is a means of categorizing weight in terms of nationally recognized standards. It's important to remember that the decision to undergo bariatric surgery is a serious one that should not be taken lightly. Patients must be committed to making the physical and emotional lifestyle changes necessary to ensure their surgery is a successful one. Click on Our Program
